Volume 2 of the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the replacement of Calaveras Dam (a 563 page PDF) classified this stone wall as “historic” (p. 4.10-33), but conceded that nothing discovered here could date it. So why make the classification? Even if the wall dated from the historic era, Indians could have constructed it since they lived in the Calaveras Valley during the 1850s (p. 4.10-10).
